oh god,? comlaining animal cruelty tubers, we meet again. -__- (please get yourselves a bottle of scotch and a handgun and go be depsessed somewhere because most of you never even had a dog or you are the kind who think of dogs as porcelain figures and put fucking make-up on your dog.. The only thing i was pissed about was the shaky camera hand which did'nt let me see this awesome triumph for Newfie-kind! Yeah? any one that is saying it is cruel for this newfie to do this are silly. He was not exhausted and they are bred to be big strong and very good swimmers and enjoy pulling things through water as they are effectively life saver dogs.

What a fantastic dog! It obviously loves pulling. I have a Newfie too. He also loves to pull and carry. Children on sleighs in the winter time. Once we tied him to the car while washing it, then he started pulling the car :-) A few weeks ago we were picking elderberry and we tied him to a? elderberry tree aprox. 3-4 inches in diameter and he just snapped it like he wasn't tied at all :-)

If there is anything cruel in this it may be keeping such dogs in California. They? are great beasts and though I am a Lab fan (the lesser Newfoundland Dog) These are wonderful dogs and joyfully swim after kayaks in ice laden sea water ( 32 f or 0 C water temperatures. these friendly oafs are used to rescue swimmers and can be taught to dive (swim UNDER water) . My Lab could pick up rocks it swam out for.

@pciochetto Black flies in NFLD are nothing compared to those in Northern Ontario. The black flies there are so big that one landed on my window ledge one night & kicked in my window screen, lol. Gros Morne is beautiful. The 10th century Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows is fascinating (too bad Canada refused to issue any commemorative? coins or stamps in 2000 for the 1000th anniversary of this world heritage site, but we did get one for Canadian Tire's 75th anniversary). Enjoy.

@spitfire9b funny you should respond now after 3 months. Cause we moved up the trip and will be in Port Aux Basques mon morning. ? We tried to avoid the black flies and we wanted to see icebergs although it looks like we will have to go to St Anthonys for that. We were hoping to avoid the Northern peninsula and save some travel time. Only a few bergs in Twillngate and the other town west of there the name escapes me. We"ll be kayaking with stan cook on tues or wed and gros morne by sat the12

@pciochetto Please ignore atlanticeagle's comments. If you are going to Newfoundland, seeing? St. John's is a must. St John's is a Celtic city with mutlinational tastes, many fine restaurants offering local and international cuisine. Corner Brook is beautiful but doesn't have the variety of scenery or the amenities of St John's. Actually, you should try to see as much of the island as possible. You won't regret it!

Im excited...ive booked the ferry to go over and see my BF this August, for 2 whole weeks. If I could, I would move there, with my daughter...but I have such? a great job in Ontario. Ive heard nothing but terrific things about NFLD the people, the landscape (is like Ireland) the food, the culture. I cant wait..its a trip of a lifetime.

@pciochetto I'd avoid St. John's and try to stick to driving around the island and explore. You could always also try Cornerbrook... it's much less touristy, but? is an amazing city with a lot to do. I think it is one of the most beautiful and laid back places I have ever been. It is only about an hour away from Gros Morne National Park which is an amazing place. Trail systems run through town, a short drive out of town and you can be in the bush. Hope this helps! Have a great trip!
