@chadio5547 Sorry It took so long t respond back. I usually don't ever get replies in these things. As to the quietness of the system, I would be very interested? in comparing that. Some older units are pretty noisy, but these newer ones we just got ar quite a bit quieter than anything we owned before. I also see that the aesthetics of the split unit are quite nicer than the window unit. I guess it all depends on what you can or are aloowed to do to the place you live.

i ave more to add (ran out of characters) you need to make sure if you cut the line set shorter that your revac the system and check the pressurres as i said this is very? wrong its in a nother country with 220 ~ 240 volts and on smaller units you can plug them into an outlet

2 MO UPDATE: No issues to date whatsoever...just 100% D.I.Y. satisfaction...area cooled: a challenging 19' x 20'bedroom, or aprox. 380? sq. ft. floorsurface x 8ft high ceiling incl. 6'x4' window which receives significant daily bright HOT sunshine, stucco walls, PLUS a traditional Mission style California red clay (Sizzling HOT!) but beautiful tile roof...with my tiny 12,000BTU LG MiniSplit..muggy 123 degrees outside , a VERY comfortable 65 degrees inside, 24/7...BRRRRrrrrrrrr!!!!! get window unit place in window plug in turn on done :) This is a lot of wheel spinning when you could just do the above. Split systems are nice when you are centraly cooling, but this is kinda like putting together a toy one, like those tiny little steam engines that sit on a desk. Neat to look at but not much practical sense to put to work. I dont know, maybe im shallow, but I just dont see the use of it when there are easier ways to cool a room. ? I do see the educational value though

These units are very quiet. My Pastor installed them in his house and i was blown away with how quiet it was. I never seen anything like them before. But it is a? heat pump which is what i don't like about them. Heat pump units will freeze up very often when trying to heat a house at 5 degrees. We don't live in a very cold climate the temp now is about 94. A month ago it was 115. Last christmas our unit froze up cause it was to cold. It was around 0 degrees.

@bengalwoman very simple, ? it is the same like duct system, the conventional central AC consist an outdoor unit condenser and indoor unit evaporator which distribute the air through the duct, in split system the evaporator distribute the direct without a duct, same ductless indoor units designed to operates with duct, name concealed units, so you can use one concealed unit to connect to a duct, same as central ac.

I'm not that techie and I live in a place that easily reach 104 Fahrenheit everyday. Lately my bill has been getting higher and I was wondering if you could tell me which? of the next two scenarios is better for my bill: 1) Turning the mini split on with 68 F for 30 minutes then 30 minutes off then 30 minutes on, etc etc... 2) Keeping it on as long as I need it in 75 F.

You don't see many of the Asian? brands of AC units here, the big makes are York, Trane, Ruud, Rheem, Lennox , and Carrier. Most of the built in AC units are integrated into heating system, the cooling coil is in the plenum of the furnace and the condenser is outside, not including the heat pump types of course, otherwise people use window units or those portable types with the hoses. Those mini split units are kind of rare but becoming more common with time.

I think its more to do with noise. the expansion point makes a hissing sound during start-up and shutdown as gas bubbles flow through, even when running normally the liquid makes noise too. having the TXV or orafice in the indoor unit would move those noises indoors and be unacceptable.
