Cheap pool heater - Solar Posted by: geophreigh
Video duration: 153 seconds Global video hits: 143 This solar pool heater helps keep our pool at about 90-91 degrees in the summer, i used 350 feet of black poly tubing and a 600gph sump pump to do this, the lift of 10 feet or so reduces the gallonage by about half, but at the peak of a nic sunny day it comes out about 25 degrees warmer and keeps the average temp of our pool about 10-12 degrees higher than it would otherwise. Ingenious pool heater - Electric Posted by: geophreigh
Video duration: 180 seconds Global video hits: 233 this method of heating my pool is electric, a great idea if you live where electricity is cheap, like it is here. I use 2 separate 1/4hp sump pumps i picked up at the hardware store, one in the hot tub going to the pool and the other in the pool going back to the hot tub. In 4 hours I get between 8 and 10 dgrees depending on ambient conditions. Don't leave these unattended. FRESNEL LENS SUN COLLECTOR Heating a Swimming Pool with the Sun Solar Swimming Pool Heater Posted by: GREENPOWERSCIENCE
Video duration: 381 seconds Global video hits: 113193 www.greenpowerscienc e.com This video show how a Fresnel Lens can be used to generate heat in water for a pool. It also illustrates the inability to heat water only. and the need for a dark target. The heat sink used in this video falls short of being a true dark object but the green color looked cool. If? I was building this, I'd save on the pipe clamps by drilling the timber and coiling through the holes. Just a thought.

hi=if you increase the lenght of that black hose to 1000 feet or more==would that help into heating up the water more-??and does it matter what type of hose i use ??or must it be black==??=-i live in a place with lots of? very hot sun--yet my pool still cold--will appreciate ur answer--and congratulation on a very logical excelent idea--

There was a Japanese design of solar panel, with a blow up clear cover, may be one way? to increase output would be to bag the unit with clear poly film to aid production temperature & if you could rig it with the sump switch a low temperature cut out, to stop the pump wastfully running if the shadowing gets too much.

By: jsteed5. on 24 Sep 11, 13:36:15
@zeedee21 Slowing down the flow of water will reduce the heating rate. It is true that lower flow will increase the discharge temperature, but the heat flow Q=m*Cp*dT will decrease. The inside-tube heat transfer coefficient becomes lower as fluid velocity (Reynold's number) decreases. Increased flow decreases cold fluid temperature, but increases temperature driving force, whcih also increases heat trasnfer rate. Bottom line, higher? water flow = more heat. (Dr. J. Steed, BASc, PhD, P.Eng)

@gwsl311 Don't? need 70' of lift, your roof isn't more than 12'.
By: dick117. on 24 Jul 11, 11:49:58
Just throw a black panel in the pool or paint the bottom black. This was? a big waste of time, effort, money and materials. Plus 85 degrees is pretty low, my garden hose gets hotter than that.

i was? wondering if the system still works and if the harbor freight pump did not fail because i was thinking of getting that same pump
By: tomekville. on 18 Jul 11, 05:38:15

@gwsl311 I know this comment was a year ago but maybe it's the heat differential that causes the circulation. The first house I ever built back in 1971-72 we installed a circulating hot water system that had? no pump at all. This house was 2 story (granted, not 8 stories).

By: StraightOutOfBordom. on 02 Mar 11, 04:01:57
My solar cover works good too, but only for about 9" down, and then it's just "turn your nuts blue" cold for the rest of the pool. I think I'll build this heater this summer because the results? look promising. Thanks for this vid!
