Have you tried to attach a long copper tube to the top of the vacuum tube? You'll get most of the water vapor to condense as long as your air temp? and humidity don't get too high.

This is efficient but the water will have really bad taste that way. It's probably going to be germ free and safe but, it would smell bad? because you boil the water that close to the collector, Some or the dirt and other not so good things are bound to cross over to the collector with the steam. You did another water distillation system video sometime ago and THAT water was way cleaner and odor free, or so I'm guessing.

Vacuum tube is a glass tube with two layers of glass with a vacuum(empty space) between them. Tube is filled with dirty water is cover with mug. Dan aims parabolic focal point on tube. The parabolic mirror reflects sunlight to the inner glass which is black(absorbs heat better)which heats up. This heats the dirt water inside the tube to a boil making steam which floats up to the? mug. The mug is cooler then the steam so steam is turn back into water(clean water) which runs down into the cup.

@moonreft I have peltier? elements even made a video about them on my channel but they are not free. Also they do not need to exceed 70C on the hot side so quite a lot under the water boiling point. Thanks for the suggestion.

@electrodacus most use a cool bath to condense the water. In your case I? would buy peltier elements and turn the waste heat into electricity. The cooling effect would not be very much but you could kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak

@599891 A local? school did just that and was then in trouble for not paying federal tax per gallon. The state may have gotten involved as well. Look into it if your serious.

The pump does not need to be the 100 watt version. There are lower wattage pumps on the market. A good DC pump would work too. This is 50 gallons. Pondmaster Magnetic Drive Water Pump.

I don't know if this comment has already been made but how much hotter would the water be if the hose were covered with? something clear and housed in something insulated? Another thing to consider is the winding of the hose. It's hard to explain so I'll have to say that the center of it would be like an 'S' so that both either end can go to the top or bottom of the 'box' it's in.

Maybe a longer hose coupled with a reflective surface, and a slower solar pump that works on a timer, so more water sits in hotter coils for at least a few minutes before it moves. Solar water heaters can work, they're just not as fast or portable. Solar systems in general seem? to need backups... Rout the coil water into a conventional water heater that won't come on until well after dark.

@DJMC5ive Assume the pump has an? efficiency of 50%; 1/2 its energy goes into heat and 1/2 goes into kinetic energy (water motion). As the moving water travels through the pipe coil and then slows down inside the tank due to friction, it is converting the other 1/2 of the energy into heat. A very small amount of that heat will be lost through the pipe coil to the ambient air, and the remainder will be transfered to the water, heating it. Stirring water with a spoon heats the water.

I'm not sure if you've already done it? but, could you please do the same setup only change the rubber piping for copper and use a fresnel lens? Oh and use a different kind of table as I don't think Denise would be too pleased with a hole in the middle! :) You could also use a parabolic mirror with the coil of? copper in the middle.

Your videos are great and the message VERY necessary in these times, but did you stop and calculate what percentage of the temperature increase came from the heat of the submerged pump operating? A 100 watt pump submerged will be putting 100 watts of heat into the water. This does not mean the experiment is a failure, it will just help better understand how much of the heat rise is due to solar? collection.

I would say more humanitarian and I would really like India : ). I am rural also in Wisconsin and my small house/super shed I have been working on for the last year has been a bit of a magnet to the zoning authorities stating all the things it can't be and that it needs to be farther from the road. It is not close to the road to begin with, so I was just curious how it is in your area. Interesting also as there has been a nudist? camp and now a strip club that opened within the last few years

Hello Dan and Denise. Thank you for sharing all the very inspiring and interesting videos. I am doing some of teh things you teach like making my own solar panels and I hope to install a solar water heater soon. I just bult an electric car (videos in my chanel). I took a sentra 2004 and removed the gas engine and replaced with an electric motor, a controller and 20 deep-cycle batteries and goes for about 50 miles per charge and works great. Please tell me what you think. I? live in Tampa as well.

Xmas lights are great for lighting. We have a pantry in our house that was really hard to see in. I added a plug in the ceiling that is wired into the hall light only 2 feet away and strung a length of the small LED lights around the inside of the pantry.? My wife LOVES it because she can see everything on every shelf. I'm going to do the same thing with lights out on my porch. Great lighting and energy efficient!

@v3511 Color temperature is actually? a common measurement used to describe the wavelength, i.e., the inverse of frequency, which is what determines color. The red end of the spectrum has longer wavelengths, maybe 3200K (Kelvin) whereas the blue end may be over 6500K. The sun is considered white, so for a natural daylight look, you'd want a color temperature probably over 5000K. Also, if you google spectroscopy, you'll find the astronomical approach to color temperature.

@syndrome95 You could use a computer power supply, they have 3.3, 5v 12v? outs and produce pretty nice power quality. You could use pots, voltage divider/resistor etc, and have a pretty long lasting led lighting solution, Running low voltage lines to your own custom made led assemblies made with built with bulk leds. Dropping the current 80% of rated across an LED will really improve life too!. If you did it right, you might never see your led's fail!

@ieldanth Fair comment. I agree with you. Just been looking into the driver circuits needed to run bunches of leds from mains power. Seems like the quality/expense of the circuit can effect the life of the bulbs. I pulled one of my Chinese bulbs apart and the driver circuit was only built from passive components. Nice and cheap but the wattage of the lamp may be? higher than it could be and mains voltage fluctuations could damage the LEDs Also cheap bulbs cannot be dimmed properly.

i really love the modern led lighting but one thing i noticed is that all the LED bulbs i? worked with are more of a spot light. they do a poor job of throwing light in all direction. in agricultur this causes a problem. if light is not evenly spread out it will cause production problems. but a great thing about LED is that they dont fliker like all flurecent bulbs do. its not visible to a human eye but animals might get iritated if not taken care of.

Continued The only major problem I have come across is the shape and style of the bulbs. For modern designed light fittings they are fine but many people still like to use old world style light fittings which makes replacement of incandescent lamps very difficult. Both CFL and LED replacements often wont fit or look ridiculas in old fittings. The problem is the electronics needed to drop the voltage from mains to low voltage? needed by the LED or in the case of CFL the coils and starter circuits

Its true that led lamps are remarkable ands seem to be the only solution for low power lighting. Suppliers should really state the light power in lux as well as the colour temperature in kelvin so we can compare CFL lamps definately make you feel uncomfortable and are not suitable in a room where you want to relax. It seems that China are the only country who can manufacture LED lamps economically so its only quality control that makes the difference between branded and? non branded lamps.

@freeenergynews So its anecdotal then. I have worked? in flourescent lighting my whole career (>30 years) and not had headaches because of that nor the people around me. It could be true that it happens in some cases. But as I say, I would be more inclined to pay attention if there were a peer reviewed study on something that would appear to have such wide repercussions. The frequency in Germany is 50 hertz, but in the states it is 60 hertz. Perhaps that contributes to it more there.

What did you do as to why there was mold that came about after remodeling the first time? How did you detect it were there wet/mold spots or did you do an unseen test? I have been working on a glorified shed/greenhouse the past year and I was? stuffing the roof with newspaper for a bit till I realized what I was doing and changed over to USPS Tyvek envelopes : ). Dan, don't use bleach it's actually worse for your health? then the mold (as it off gasses) there are products that are less toxic you can use to control mold. If you have to replace drywall because of mold there is mold resistant drywall available. A little more expensive but worth the money. Also there is mold resistant polyurethane spray foam, better then fiberglass or organic insulations. There is also a process to remove mold from structure (wood) using dry ice (ice blasting).

I do a lot of woodworking and have now gone through three HF drills (compared to the one Hitachi I've had). I worked that Hitachi drill much harder, it single? handedly put up 135 feet of 6 foot board on board fence, lag screws and all. 1st HF drill blew apart on me to my dismay sinking holes in MDF! I AM fond of my HF bearing press though.

@junkman6261 There are 2 blades and? they are $25 a set. I would estimate over 40 steel pipes. The blades have an extremely small contact area. They look similar to regular saw blades in the 50 tooth range but they are hardened a bit more from what I have researched. I would suggest short runs of 1 minute or less because the motor is high amp for its size. Like a cord or cordless drill. Run one fully loaded for more than one minute and they get hot.

@GREENPOWERSCIENCE I thought about getting the original infomercial saw a couple years ago for a Christmas gift which back then at least was WAY higher priced than this one. I decided not to buy it after reading online reviews from people complaining about them overheating and catching on fire far too many times. HF website has many same reviews.The sale price for this unit I think makes it a worthwhile? purchase but just be mindful to let it cool down once in a while during heavy use.

Ive always figured your solar cooking wood be great for slow cooking meats, chili, soups, gumbo etc. All those many thing you can cook in a crock pot. Your turkey pretty much proved my thoughts. All that time your turkey was slow cooking did you just drop it in and forget it? As long as it hovers? around 300-350 degrees without having to worry about the lens..thats just about perfect for camping. Just set it up mid-morning...ready for supper early evening.
