I believe the magic happens at minimum current draw My hack lob of a Bedini will still light the neons while turned down to 100ma where the? output matches... So yours would totally dominate that performance i bet!! i dont know what RDS is lol

Why did you run it on it's side like you said should never be done due to risks of parts flying apart and killing you? Just because you haven't had failure at higher rpm doesn't mean you can't or won't at some point, so be safe at all times, we need you to keep? up the good work.

A micro is great for timing. Arduino (& clones) give great power w/simple lang. 1 input pulse from any pos. will synch. & give total freedom of pulse timing/dwell, 1µsec timing resol., control speed/torque, flexible # of drive coils, etc. High RPMs require different timing than slow speeds (ie: ignition advance), and there will likely be a resonant freq/speed for max. eff. Could use the A-D? inputs to make it self-tune the speed/torque- if you want to dream.(I'm 52, it's not just for the 'kids")

Hey ZFF, Love your work.... one suggestion. You may wish to have? some sort of protection in case something flys apart on your device. I would hate to see you catch a piece of plastic or metal at those high speeds.... maybe turn the device upright and stay away from the sides/top?

Speaking of dreaming... it would be cool? to have something like this sitting in my electric scooter where the batteries use to be... need at least a cozy 15 amp supply though. @ZeroFossilFuel i have a crazy idea for you, maybe i am? not the first one to tell you but when i see all that acrylic and the nice straight edges it makes me wonder if you have considered tightening it up and sucking all air out of it. running the magnet-wheel in a vacuum would remove all airresistance as well as the noise. it may cause the oil for the bearings to evaporate.

Being that the starting poles are parallel to the magnetic force, tending to attract the magnets toward the poles (not directly orthogonal to them), what would be the force that dictates the direction of travel? Have you tried spinning the rotor in the opposite direction? And would it continue to spin in that direction? under power? Apologies for the distraction - just curious.
