People this? is my Video and post! I appreciate the complements! The argument about how to season wood is silly! Different types of wood season differently, there are many variables like weather size of splits and if it's stacked off the ground! The problem with the Internet is people feel they can insult while remaining anonymous.

No one buys a stove based upon "how long will a coal be present so that I don't have to spend 1/10th of? a cent on one match?". 3. People DO buy stoves to heat their homes. 4. I have a stove that "has coals" up to 2.5 days later. It hasn't provided heat after about 7 hrs, so how long a few coals happen to be there IS MEANINGLESS. Shut up, go spam someone else.

@local wood does NOT need to be seasoned for two years. google it. there? have been many studies on this. One must cut wood to a relatively short length, split it, stack it, keep it dry but in an airy area. The shorter the length, the faster it dries, as much of the moisture moves along the grain and out the ends. People cut down an oak, let it sit in the woods on the ground for a year "seasoning" (it is not), then cut/split and stack out in the rain, then don't understand why it is so long.

@kenfo0 when stoves refer to their burn time, they are talking about how long you can go on a complete load of wood, inside of an already brought-up-to-temperature? stove, on low, until it is no longer hot enough to start a fire without having to use newspaper or kindling again. nothing to do with heat output at all.

It's true that modern stoves need well-seasoned firewood. If you can let it season for two years, then all the better. One should be sufficient though -- especially if you have a shed? roof that's open on three sides for good air circulation and stack your firewood with plenty of space between the stacks for air circulation. If you can find good hard maple, oak, ash, locust, and osage orange then you've got the good stuff. Nice insert. Great vid! Those kids sure like to entertain...

@40markava I purchased my Montpelier in 2010... I have a 2 story house and find that it? heats up the lower floor so much that it turns off the thermostat, leaving the rest of the house cold... have you experienced the same problems and if so have you came up with a solution.

I am hoping to heat my living room/dining room (one big room) and into my? kitchen which is through a doorway. Together those rooms are about 1000sq ft. @safetrip yes this insert has a fan. I live in NYC and use this as primary heat i have oil burner for back up or cord mornings. Fan noise is like white noise that you don't notice after a while. It is true you do lose some radiant heat? with an insert. the ascetics make up for this in my case!

@40markava We are debating between getting wood insert or stove. The concern that I have for stove is that the most of? the top surface is inside the fireplace so you cannot get the radiation out of it where as a stove can radiate not only through the front but also the top and sides as well. Does your insert have fan to circulate hot air to compensate for this? If so any fan noise issue?

yes im very happy with iti cut my oil consumption by 2/3s ? These modern stoves love seasoned wood though! green wood will not burn satisfactory. I burn about 2 cords and i season them for about a year! Glass stays clean if wood is dry my wife likes how the unit complements the fireplace!
